God's Women, Good Men and Monsters: Illustrating Dracula
Exhibition runs Friday 25th of April, 2025, until Monday 5th of May, 2025 at our gallery

After successful runs in Whitby and London and a feature on ITV, ‘God’s Women, Good Men and Monsters’ will soon make its final stop at York Fine Arts. The exhibition features ten original pencil illustrations by York artist Kirsty Maclennan, contextualised by an immersive collection of film, music and curios. Commissioned for a new publication of Dracula for The Crow Emporium Press, the exhibition brings together this special collection of illustrations, original scores, with additional calligraphy art by artist Christina Rauh Fishburne, offering a fascinating delve into the making of this edition.

Taking the better part of a year to complete, Kirsty’s finely detailed illustrations bring new blood to Bram Stoker’s classic gothic tale. For her depictions of the renowned novel's characters, Kirsty turned to real people in her immediate surroundings. Lifting the lid on their identity for the first time, Kirsty reveals that she used her partner and work colleagues as models to create more realistic and personal imagery, casting each into a role and weaving their likeness throughout the pages of her illustrations. These illustrations will be available to purchase during the show for the very first time.

The Crow Emporium Press Illustrated Edition of Dracula is exclusively available at The Crow Emporium.
