A young artist brimming with promise and potential, contemporary still life artist Colin Wilson has broken new ground with his contemporary approach to the still life genre. Though he works primarily within the realm of photorealism, Colin carefully chooses subjects and compositions that push the boundaries of the style and redefine the parameters of contemporary still life. Demonstrating vision, mastery and dexterity well beyond his years, Colin is one of the most exciting young artists to emerge in the UK's still life market in recent years.
Since graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2010, Colin has finely tuned his exceptional natural talent. In his years as an artist, he has explored multiple genres, including portraiture, collage and landscape painting—but it is still life that has captured and held his focus. Many of his still lifes explore the interaction of visual planes and the combination of two conflicting styles of painting: abstract and realism. It is this ability to so ingenuously transcend traditional techniques that has allowed Colin to establish such a distinctive, engaging style worthy of the 21st century.
Since being chosen to exhibit in the Royal Scottish Academy’s New Contemporaries exhibition in 2011, Colin has been hailed as ‘one to watch’ and his work has quickly become a staple in the portfolios of contemporary collectors around the world. Today, he lives and works in Edinburgh, where he continues to capture and hold the attention of collectors and galleries alike.
