As we drift into the vivid hues and bracing winds of autumn’s horizon, it is with excitement that we look ahead to an exceptionally busy end of the year. With a schedule of anticipated events just around the corner, we continue to ready ourselves behind the scenes. Meanwhile, out front and centre stage, an inspiring abundance of new artwork adorns the gallery walls, treasures to be uncovered and cherished for a lifetime.
It is with great delight that we announce ‘Sean Durkin: Art For All!’, the third annual solo exhibition of original paintings by contemporary artist Sean Durkin. Brimming with grit and wry humour, Sean’s work shines a light on Britain’s industrial past and its proud working communities, of which his family were a part. For those who know Sean’s fascinating history, his paintings offer plentiful nods and fond homages. For those who do not - tales of intrigue and infamy await. The exhibition will open on Friday the 4th of October on the first floor of the gallery, with preview catalogues available beforehand. Contact the gallery to request this exclusive first look at the collection.
This month we also had the pleasure of welcoming figurative artist Amanda Jackson to our lovely city, for a spot of plein air painting on The Shambles. Amid the bustle and charm of York’s most famous street, Amanda set up her easel and unboxed her paints, to the delight and fascination of hundreds of passersby. So taken was she with our fair city, that Amanda intends to return for another day of painting in the future. As ever, keep an eye on our website and newsletter for details of any upcoming events.
The gallery's restoration service remains a popular service for our clients. A well cared for painting will last a lifetime, but to last two or three, it may need some help. With over forty years of experience, our restorer has undertaken work for private and commercial clients, city and county councils and national institutions, yielding transformative results. From painting repairs to cleaning, we offer a comprehensive fine art restoration and conservation service, suiting a wide range of needs. Just as each artwork is unique, so too is its restoration. Our service is tailored to every individual piece and its history, preserved, given life anew and then protected to ensure it stands the test of time. To receive a free, no obligations quote on your artwork restoration, contact the gallery and a member of our friendly team will talk you through the process.
