With a crisp chill in the air and the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot, we delight in the pleasures of autumn once again. As the evening’s slowly draw in, Richard Telford’s newest painting is a fitting companion for the season. Awash with warming golds and sepia tones, ‘Mad Alice Lane, York’ is a mesmerising scene of fading light and falling shadow, beautifully reminiscent of autumn’s own transitional nature. Mysterious yet simultaneously familiar, the painting makes for a reflective and thought-provoking addition to any contemporary collection.
Autumn’s arrival also heralds the coming of the gallery’s annual Edward Hersey and Gordon Lees exhibition. Opening next month on Friday the 19th of November, the exhibition brings together a collection of paintings and signed limited edition prints from two of the gallery’s most popular and established landscape artists. From specially commissioned paintings to exclusive signed limited edition prints, the exhibition features a variety of work guaranteed to delight new and veteran collectors alike.
In other exciting news, we are delighted to welcome the work of contemporary artist Chris Parsons into our galleries. Brimming with blooming wildflowers and birdsong, his bright, panoramic landscapes offer a fantastical escape. Playfully resting somewhere between dream and memory, Chris’ work brings a breath of fresh air to the gallery’s contemporary collection.
This month’s newsletter also bears the sad news that beloved wildlife artist Wayne Westwood has passed away. An eminent figure in his field, Wayne was a great lover of the outdoors, pouring his passion for the natural world and its creatures into each and every one of his paintings. Both Wayne and his marvellous contribution to fine art will be sorely missed.
In addition to the artwork mentioned above, this month the gallery has welcomed the arrival of new work by Michael John Ashcroft, Colin Wilson, Andrew Grant Kurtis, Edward Hersey, Gordon Lees, Raymond Campbell, Amanda Jackson, Jay Nottingham, Steve Thoms, Terry Evans and Sean Durkin, with new work arriving by Dianne Flynn by the end of the week. Visit our Recently Acquired page to view these exciting new additions to the gallery’s collection, as well as any new pieces to arrive throughout the month ahead.
As always, we wish you the very best of health and happiness and look forward to welcoming you to our galleries soon.
