November welcomes us with chilly evenings, roaring fires and the first taste of the Christmas season. Gordon Lees’ newest painting puts us in a festive mood, its soft colours and warm glow a precursor of the seasonal celebrations to come. From the dainty horse and carriage driving down the hill, to the community of villagers passing in and out of the inn, the painting brims with Gordon’s trademark detail and narrative, making it an exquisite representation of his fine work.
‘Snowy Hamlet, The Cotswolds’ is just one of many new paintings that will feature in the annual Edward Hersey and Gordon Lees exhibition that after much anticipation, finally opens later this month. The exhibition opens Friday, the 18th of November and runs until Sunday, the 11th of December; but for those eager to catch the first glimpse, the gallery will be open for a preview on Thursday, the 17th of November until 8:00pm. Preview catalogues will also be available during opening week, so do let us know if you would like to receive an exclusive copy. For those unable to view the exhibition in person, it will also be available to view online.
This month also sees the arrival of work by Edward Hersey, Gordon Lees, Daniel Van der Putten, Sean Durkin, Raymond Campbell, Michael Simpson, Terry Evans, Les Spence and Alan Smith. New work by Michael James Smith will also be arriving shortly. Do take a look at our Recently Acquired page to view the gallery’s newest additions, and perhaps even get a few ideas for Christmas as well.
We wish you the best, and look forward to seeing you soon.
Yours faithfully,
The Directors of York Fine Arts
