With warmer weather and some long overdue sunshine, May greets us with a sense of unbridled adventure and the hopeful promise of long, joyful days ahead. Between the excitement of art fairs, upcoming exhibition preparations and the largest influx of new work so far this year, it’s been a busy month for the York Fine Arts team. With no sign of slowing down, we simply cannot wait to share our latest updates with you all.
The gallery is thrilled to announce that next month, pastel artist Ian Rawling will reveal his first solo exhibition at York Fine Arts, ‘Ian Rawling: Familiar and Found’. From curios to the conventional, cars to culinary delights, Ian Rawling possesses an unparalleled ability to transform everyday subjects into something truly extraordinary. Be they familiar or something long since forgotten, Ian applies his acute observation and exceptional skill to find and elevate that which is often overlooked, unveiling the entrancing elements and details within. Preview catalogues will be available upon request, so do register your interest if you wish to have a first look at the collection.
Primed with our signature warm welcome and a spectacular collection of over 70 works of art, the York Fine Arts team had a fantastic few days at Fresh Art Fair: Cheltenham. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome so many faces old and new to the stand, and an equal delight to send some of our most loved and collectible artwork off to their forever homes. For those who unable to attend (or those simply looking to re-live the experience), some fantastic footage of both our behind-the-scenes set-up and the fair in full swing is available to view on our Instagram.
Amongst the buzz of Fresh Art Fair, we were delighted to catch up with contemporary artist Amanda Jackson as she demonstrated the finer details of her craft. It was a pleasure to watch her work in real time and find out more about her process, from initial sketches (often based on sketches from her own son’s childhood) to finished painting. Such was our captivation that plans are already taking shape for Amanda to visit York later this summer for a day of plein air painting. Do keep an eye on our website and newsletter for further details in due course.
