The festivities of the Christmas season have joyously come and gone, gently leading us into the new year ahead. Edward Hersey’s newest painting is a gracious usher, radiating an unassuming beauty that conquers frosty mornings and frozen ground alike. ‘Winter Serenity’ is a welcome reminder that even in the depth of winter, warmth and simple pleasures can indeed be found.
In the past month the gallery has also acquired new paintings from Clare Haley, Michael James Smith, Sean Durkin, Gordon Lees, Raymond Campbell, Jay Nottingham, Stephen Hawkins and Jacqueline Gaylard. We will be receiving additional new work throughout the month ahead, so be sure to keep checking the Recently Acquired page.
The new year is a time for reflection, and as such, we would like to take a moment to express our gratitude for your continued patronage. On behalf of ourselves and the many artists you support through your advocacy of the arts, we wholeheartedly thank you.
We send our very best wishes for a happy and prosperous 2017, and look forward to seeing you soon.
Yours faithfully,
The Directors of York Fine Arts
Born and raised in Yorkshire, from an early age Clare developed an artist’s appreciation for the county’s stunning landscape and dramatic weather. Her paintings reflect the untamed allure and emotion of the British landscape, making them powerful pieces for any collection.
Seven original paintings by Clare Haley are available for purchase.
Jacqueline paints a wide variety of subjects, but animals are undoubtedly one of her favourites, whether wild or domestic. She is a member of the Society of Feline Artists (SOFA) fellow member of The Wildlife Art Society International (FWASI), and has exhibited with the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art (NEWA), the Marwell International Wildlife Art Society (MIWAS), the Society of Wildlife Artists and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters at the Mall Galleries, London.
Seven original paintings by Jacqueline Gaylard are available for purchase.
Michael’s work is truthful, painted with astounding precision and clarity. While many modern landscape artists can sometimes over-romanticise or exaggerate, Smith’s applied restraint allows the country’s natural beauty to speak for itself. With such a unique style that appeals to a wide variety of collectors, demand for Michael’s work is positively insatiable.
Two original paintings by Michael James Smith are available for purchase.
Stephen's paintings capture the subtle changes of light and shade throughout the seasons. The inclusion of sheep, cattle and horses in many of his landscapes help to authentically convey the peaceful atmosphere and mood of modern day ‘Down land’ life.
Five original paintings by Stephen Hawkins are available for purchase.
