Feeling rested and revived, we continue our journey into the new year with calm focus and intent. Leading us gracefully into the next chapter is Caroline Richardson’s ‘Breakfast with Hermione’, a deliciously elegant painting blooming with soft colour and delicate detail. Dainty china and finely polished sliver bring a sophisticated touch of opulence to the scene, while the informal placement of the vase and lightly rumpled linen keep the mood comfortably grounded. A flawless representation of Caroline’s effortlessly exquisite work, ‘Breakfast with Hermione’ is a collector’s classic.
As we brightly look to the year ahead, the gallery is thrilled to announce an exciting and eclectic programme of exhibitions for 2022. In addition to favourite annual shows such as ‘Clare Haley: Light of Yorkshire’ and 'Edward Hersey & Gordon Lees', this year the gallery will be unveiling a new line-up of both solo and mixed shows by some of the gallery’s favourite artists. Included is the inaugural and already highly anticipated solo exhibition, ‘Sean Durkin: Art for All!’, which will feature a sensational collection of specially commissioned work by contemporary artist Sean Durkin—with a few surprises along the way. Additional details about this and the rest of the gallery’s exhibitions will be released in the coming weeks, so do continue to check our Exhibitions page for more information.
For those who have not yet had the chance to visit, the Winter Exhibition remains on show at our York gallery until the end of the month. A mixed show of work, the collection shines a light on the softer side of the season, bringing its organic warmth and beauty into dazzling focus. In addition to in person at the gallery, the collection is also available to view on our website, as well as on the ‘Exhibitions’ portion of our Instagram stories. If you have not yet stopped by our Instagram, you can follow us @yorkfinearts to delve deeper into the gallery's collection and enjoy a behind-the-scenes perspective.
Even in the depths of winter, new work continues to arrive at the gallery. So far this month, that has included paintings by Caroline Richardson, Sean Durkin, Jay Nottingham, Alex Hill, Edward Hersey, Stephen Park and Terry Evans. We are also due to receive new work from Amanda Jackson among others, so do be sure to check back on our Recently Acquired page to see the newest additions to the York Fine Arts collection.
