In the jubilant spirit of spring, we send our warmest greetings to you all. It is with great excitement that this month we welcome contemporary artist Mike Hall to the gallery. Trained at the Manchester Collect of Art and subsequently the Royal College of Art, the fine quality and thoughtful composition of Mike’s work comes as no surprise. His newest painting, ‘Table Set for Tea’, perfectly encapsulates the anticipation of the season, its dappled light, leafy canopy and delicate feast bright with the promise of tranquil, languid days to come.
In addition to Mike Hall, this month we also welcome Pateley Bridge based sculptor Joseph Hayton. A trained stonemason of the prestigious Stone Sculpting College of York, Joseph works predominantly in bronze and marble, and covers an assorted range of subjects, including figurative, wildlife and equine sculpture. Exuding grace, emotion and unparalleled craftmanship, Joseph’s magnificent collection of limited-edition bronze and burr elm equine sculptures are currently available at both our York and Harrogate galleries.
Most befittingly, this month our York gallery proudly opens its ‘Spring Exhibition’, which brings together an eclectic collection of both traditional and contemporary paintings. Celebrating the renewal and rejuvenation of the season, the exhibition rejoices in spring’s abundance, and features artwork from some of the gallery’s most popular artists, including Wayne Westwood, Terry Grundy and Daniel Van Der Putten. The exhibition runs from Friday, the 12th of April until Sunday, the 5th of May, so do visit our York branch to experience its reviving vitality.
In keeping with spring’s spirit of revival, this month the façade of our York gallery has been newly painted and returned to its former splendour. With its crisp lines of blue and white shining brightly in the sun, our beloved Tudor building looks better than ever and stands ready to welcome visitors in what is anticipated to be the city’s busiest summer yet.
Finally, in addition to the work of our two newest artists, the gallery has also received an inspiring selection of new work by Raymond Campbell, Stephen Hawkins, Natalie Stutely, Michael John Ashcroft MAFA and Gordon Lees, with more work by new artists expected in the coming weeks. As always, be sure to visit our Recently Acquired page to view these newest arrivals, as well as additional work due to arrive throughout the month.
We wish you the best, and look forward to welcoming you to our galleries soon.
