April greets us with new life, much needed sunshine and a taste of warmer days ahead. Not one to be upstaged, Raymond Campbell's new painting ‘Pleasure for the Palate’ welcomes us to spring with a taste of the finer things. The energy of zesty lemons, fragrant berries and effervescent champagne are a perfectly balanced contrast to cool, veined marble, yielding a luxuriously light mood to the painting.
Collectors of Raymond’s work will be pleased to hear that this month the gallery will be opening its very first Raymond Campbell exhibition. Not one to be missed, the exhibition will unveil a specially commissioned collection of still life paintings that brim with indulgence and fascination. From opulent banquet scenes to stimulating vanitas paintings, the exhibition presents a tantalising selection of work that immerses viewers in a full sensory experience. The exhibition opens on Friday, the 21st of April and runs until Sunday, the 14th of May--but an early viewing is advised.
This month the gallery is also pleased to welcome the work of British marine artist Alex Hill to York Fine Arts. Inspired by 17th century Dutch marine painters and guided by his own experience with the sea, Alex takes a personal, almost reverent approach to his work. You can read more about Alex and view his available work online here.
In addition to Alex’s work, the gallery also received paintings by Edward Hersey, Raymond Campbell, Wayne Westwood, Terry Evans, Natalie Stutely and Stephen Hawkins, so do have a look at our Recently Acquired page to see our new spring collection.
Finally, we are excited to reveal that our Harrogate branch will be opening mid-April, shortly after Easter. An exact opening date will be released closer to time; but we very much hope you will visit the new gallery when we open our doors. For the most up-to-date details, please check our website and social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
We wish you the best, and look forward to welcoming you to the gallery soon.
Yours faithfully,
The Directors at York Fine Arts
